You can now easily (well, more easily anyway) edit source code on your phone, should you be so inclined. I’ve been wanting to do this ever since I moved to China because I spend a lot of down time on the subway and it would be nice to at least feel productive. Here’s how to set it up:

1. Download touchqode from the market. You can do this from your phone or directly from the webpage.

2. Install a file system manager such as ES File Explorer

3. Download, then click on to install Scripting Layer for Android (SL4A) You can also just take a pic:

Before you click on the finished download to install SL4A, you will need to enable the “Unknown sources” option in your device’s “Application” settings.

Anyway, when you’re done you should be able to edit and run HTML, Perl, Python and maybe even JavaScript, but to be honest, so far I have only gotten the HTML to work. This may be due to the fact that SL4A is alpha software or it may be due to ignorance on my part. Only time will tell.
